Sunday, 21, December1997	The airplane move on the landing. Palm trees close in through window together different impression which it not looks like Mumbai, Delhi. I get out there after end of the entry formalities because of international flight. Getting flustered the hot air of Southland, I asked myself how to enter the town, what kind of transportation. I buy the bus ticket in the line. I ride the bus, however he doesn't pass me the ticket for no special reason. How dignified personality the ticket attendant in India is!He equipped beautiful character like a statesman. I can ride on bus with no ticket at ease for some reason or other. He slip out of his mind after all to hand over the ticket to me as I had feared. He come and bring it to me at once and asking me, he said that did I take a ticket? I answer I didn't, then he passed it with a straight face. The noon passed away long before when I entered the town of Chennai. I get off front of a travel agent office. The service of the coach which the attendant treats someone with kind consideration that the bus stopped anywhere the passenger want made me happy heart. After getting off the coach, I changed my mine. By way of compensation going to travel agent, I take a auto rikisha to cast around for some hotels tonight carrying with guide book, but I couldn't find vacuncy in its hotels intoducing by guidebook anywhere. Finally, depending upon the taxi driver, I can find the hotel tonight, Hotel Imperial feeling at home near Egmore St. and I come up for air.	機体は着陸態勢に入った。窓からヤシの木が迫ってくる。ボンベイとも違う土地の印象。　国際線フライトなので入国審査を終え外に出る。　南国の熱気に戸惑いながら、何で市内に入ろうかと考えた。券売場で金を払いバス券を買う。しかしなぜか、券をくれないのでそのままバスへ乗り込む。　インドのキップ係はなんと威厳に満ちてることか、政治家の様に立派な風貌を備えている。なぜか安心してバスに乗る。　　この人はやはりキップを渡し忘れたのだ。出発間際飛んできて、キップを受け取ったか？と聞く,謹厳実直な顔で。うけとって無いと答えると、にやりともせずんにキップを渡した。　マドラス市内に入ったのは、午後をとうに過ぎていた。旅行代理店の前でおろしてもらう。行き先を聞いて、希望の所で、親切にバスを止めてくれる。見知らぬ旅人へのこの親切は嬉しい。　　バス下車後、気が変わった。旅行代理店へ行かずオートリキシャでガイドブック片手に数件の宿を回る。が、いずれもいっぱいである。ようやく運転手に従いマドラスのエグモア駅の近くの気安い感じのホテルインペリアルに決め、一息入れる。
Monday, 22, December 1997	Depend upon the guide book, I acted getting back my strength with a simple heart. I went to Tenjiku Botan Dalhia, for Japanese dish afternoon. I ate Sashimi Teishoku for the first time in many times. Delicious! It will be take time more for me　that I familiarize myself with Indian eating habit which Indian haven't adhesion for meal more than an average.	旅の指南書に従い、ひたすら体力の回復に勤める。夕食に日本食が食べれる、天竺牡丹ダリアへ。ひさびさの刺し身定食を食べる。美味しいかった。食には普通以上の執着を持たないと言うのがこの国の人の考えである。この習慣に馴染むにはもう少し時間がかかる。
Tuesday, 23, December 1997	Ｉ went toilet frequently today. The condition of mine is the worst. At the evening, hotel manager comes to my room to know good news that the ticket of train to Quilon is available, but I have no choice to climb down. While return ticket to the way from Quilon to Delhi is not be confirmed yet. If it is not available, only air way remains in possible choice. On the other hand, a reservation of hotel in Delhi make at the travel agent introduced by Gov. of India Tourist Office .	何度かトイレに行く。体調は最悪の極。夕方、宿のおやじがクイロン行きキップが取れたと言って駅へ行くよう促される。が、今夜は、決行を断念。帰りのデリー行きキップの手配はまだ確認できない。これがだめなときは、デリーへ空路で行くしかない。チケットが取れる保証も無いが。明日、事務所へ行きフライトを押さえることにする。一方インド観光局へゆき、デリーの宿の予約もする。
Wednesday, 24, December 1997	In the morning, physical condition improves a little, then I walk on the main streets and the seashore named Marina Beach be known the longer beach in the world and come across a seller of shell. I buy large top shell cost Rs 100. I can book Flight of IA to Delhi from Chennai. Depend upon the result of situation, the hotel in Delhi been booked already by travel agent is canceled with slight canceling fee. I appreciate these conscientious persons.	今朝の腹の調子、とても良くなるところまで行かないが、浜辺の散歩く。浜辺で貝殻売りに出会う。角の出た大型サザエを購入、１００Rs。国内線インディアン・エアーラインデリー便予約する。折角のデリーの宿をキャンセルする。僅かの手数料（ｷｬﾝｾﾙﾌｨｰ）で済む。良心的な処置に感謝。
Thursday, 25, December 1997	I take a breakfast in uncrowded hotel's restaurant lonely, and for Christmas tonight dinner since 4pm after checking out, same here. Any way I have gotten the ticket of train marked RC having right to ride. I find the paper listed passenger names included my name on train body. Dramatic scene at moment!! The train is 19:40 departure from Egmore Chennai, named Qulon mail. I passed some tip to young man of hotel with many thanks. My companion de voyage are 2 team consist of one mother-daughter team and other Indian gentleman team in the spacious compartment of 4 full numbers. Later 5 minutes, train starts at setting off fireworks with the good timing. I wonder this fireworks of the celebration at Christmas night in Tamil　style. Train attendant comes the rounds of his customers to ask the menu for next morning meal after some time. The moment of the night train tonight is the high light of this trip　for me. The streaming fascinating sight of decoration bulbs of houses in outside, and reflected silhouette of palm leaf to night sky, southern stars blow off the fatigue of traveling. Howling dog voice, dreamy experiences in the night train will be told to mother.	今日もホテルのお客さんの少ないレストランで寂しく朝食、そして部屋のチェックアウト後の4時以降は、クリスマスの夜の夕食を。ともかく鉄道キップにＲＣ記号が打刻されたキップが取れる。このＷＬより一つ上のランク、寝床はまだ待ちだがシートは確保された、の意味。ＷＬ意味はキャンセル待ち登録の意味。列車のボディーに乗客リストが張り出される。そのリストに私の名前があるではないか。感激の一瞬。便はチェンナイエグモア駅１９：４０発クイロンメール号。宿のボーイに謝礼を渡し乗り込む。　　旅の道ずれは、母娘とインド青年。一等４人用コンパートメントは、ゆったりして素晴らしい。５分遅れで出発。タイミングよく景気のよい花火が上がる。ここチェンナイではクリスマスの夜に花火を上げる祝い方にちょっと驚く。　　車掌が翌朝のメニューを聞きにきた。　　今夜の夜行は旅のハイライト。　　車窓から見える家々の入り口に星型の飾りが灯る。夜空に映えるヤシの葉のシルエット、南の空の星星、これまでの旅の疲れを吹き飛ばした. 犬の遠ぼえ、皆、夢の様。母に聞かせて上げよう、この夜汽車のこと。
